Apple, Amazon, Google and Microsoft all have their own language assistants. The programs are most useful in combination with certain devices.
Apple’s voice assistant reacts very drastically to German iPhones when it comes with percentages
When Siri hears the words “one hundred percent,” she dials the emergency call
That may have unattractive consequences
Hey Siri, where were you when the other little language assistants got the numbers?
Also in the test in our editorial Siri chose the emergency call.
This question is being asked by many iPhone users. Because Apple’s helping voice has revealed a small weakness in processing percentages. And that can even be expensive.
When Siri hears the words “one hundred percent”, the assistant’s anxiety seems to break out – the emergency call is notified. If you are not fast and interrupt the countdown to dialing within three seconds, you suddenly no longer have Siri, but the police officers on the phone.
Also in our editorial Siri called the emergency call
The IT blog “MacTechNews” first reported the mistake, now it is widely discussed among iPhone users. For even with other percentages Siri reacts somewhat confused: It displays numbers on the screen or calls them. We did the test in the editorial office – Siri also contacted us.
Affected are according to blog report only iPhones under iOS 11, in which a German Siri lives. Whether, how and when Apple responds, is not yet clear. Already with the computer app of Apple a bug had been noticed, which caused the smartphone to fail with the simple calculation tasks.
Emergency call function can be important
The emergency call function in general is of course important – but with number combinations that make sense – about 911, 108 or 110. So theoretically you could call for help if you can no longer operate the smartphone by hand.
With the “wrong” emergency call, however, one could at worst get into trouble. Because the police call without cause, is a crime in Germany in Germany.
